What is ANM?
ANM is regulated by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The curriculum focuses on maternal and child health, basic nursing skills, community health, midwifery, and field training. Graduates work primarily in rural healthcare — sub-centres, PHCs, and CHCs.
Strong government recruitment route: state health departments hire ANMs heavily for the National Health Mission (NHM), ASHA programmes, and rural healthcare delivery. ANM is also a stepping stone to GNM and B.Sc Nursing via post-basic routes.
