What is ITI?
ITIs are vocational training institutes regulated by DGT (Directorate General of Training). Trades are categorised as Engineering (Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Mechanic) and Non-Engineering (Stenographer, Hair & Skin Care, Computer Operator). Successful candidates receive an NCVT/SCVT National Trade Certificate.
ITI graduates are eligible for apprenticeship (1 year stipend), government posts (Railway, Defence, PSU technician roles), and lateral entry to Polytechnic / B.Tech in some states.
ITI Eligibility Criteria 2026
- 8th or 10th pass for most trades (10th preferred)
- Some specialised trades require 12th
- Age: 14+ years (no upper limit for most trades)
- Medical fitness for certain trades
