What is Polytechnic?
Diploma engineering covers Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemical, and Automobile streams. Admission to UP polytechnics is via JEECUP. Other states have respective CETs.
Polytechnic graduates are hired as Junior Engineers / Technicians / Supervisors in PSUs (via PSE exams), Railways, manufacturing, and infrastructure. Lateral entry to B.Tech 2nd year via state lateral CETs is the most common path for higher engineering education.
Polytechnic Eligibility Criteria 2026
- 10th pass with minimum 35–50% aggregate (varies by college)
- Mathematics & Science in 10th
- Some branches also accept 12th-pass students (lateral entry to 2nd year)
- JEECUP / state CET score for govt seats
